"It's hard to imagine a better introduction to Sydney than the 2 1/2-hour stroll I took from Circular Quay past the Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens to Woolloomooloo Bay and back. (And, yes, I like saying "Woolloomooloo." If there is any language as mellifluous as the Australian aboriginal tongues I've yet to hear it.)
Circular Quay is certainly one of the most dramatic urban spaces on earth. To your right stands the Opera House, to your left the Sydney Harbour Bridge and behind you the enormous Art Deco-style Museum of Contemporary Art. A constant stream of ferries pulls in and out of the docks, looking straight out of a child's storybook..."
