St. Kitts and Nevis Vacation Travel

More About St. Kitts and Nevis - Editor's Tips - Critic Reviews - Weather Maps & Dining

When to go?
Visit St. Kitts at Christmas, and you'll find Carnival displays of folkloric culture, including masquerading locals dressing as clowns and moko jumbies (stilt walkers) - kids love 'em! Visit Nevis on New Year's and you'll be encouraged to join for a day at the horse races. In July, be delighted and diverted by Nevis' Culturama, a weeklong fest of local food and fun traditions. Typical high season on both islands is December through April, and low season (with the possibility of tropical storms) runs June through November.

Where to stay?
On islands this small, where you stay is a simple question of whether you prefer "Ocean Front" or "Ocean View." Most of St. Kitt's hotels are found on the coasts surrounding Basse-Terre, the island's main town. For a unique and historic experience, book your stay in one of St. Kitt's or Nevis' plantation inns. Unlike its quiet sister island, Nevis boasts luxury lodging like the Four Seasons, plus plenty of hotels and guest houses.

What to do?
St. Kitts has a dormant volcano at its center, offering challenging hikes. St. Kitt's perimeter is full of beautiful, pristine beaches with dive / snorkel sites. While tiny Nevis is known for its laid-back ways, it also offers a Robert Trent Jones 18-hole course, horseback riding, windsurfing, mountain biking (also available on St. Kitts) and netball. Visitors enjoy hiking up to Nevis Peak (1,200 feet above sea level), where the summit's view stretches all the way to neighboring islands.
