We are planning a trip to Savannah in the summer of 2008. We were told that you have to make a reservation for Paula Deen’s restaurant a year ahead to be able to get in. Is this true? We are northerner’s and one from Florida and new to this town, so we would appreciate some advice as to where to stay and what time of year is the best to visit. Any advice would be appreciated…Thank you very much.

We are planning a family vacation for the last week in June 2007. Can anyone recommend of a hotel on the beach that is affortable with ocean view.It will be my husband and 3year old daughters 1st trip to the beach and I want it to be a very momorable one. This is just one trip of many I plan on spending with my family.Since we are from Athens GA I figured what better place than to start with a beautiful GA beach. We will also have my 13 year old niece with us so we are looking for things to do that are family/child friendly.I know we will be taking a tour of Savannah any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone…Happy Holiday! My family and I are coming to Tybee Island for Christmas. Can anyone recommend something fun for four teenage boys? We have never been to the Savannah area before and I would like to make this trip memorable. Thanks in advance!

  7. Katrina Says:

Just arrived in Savannah, it’s great! I agree that the food on the River was overpriced for the quality. I attempted to make a reservation at Paula Deen’s and was told they were booked solid and would have to arrive in person tomorrow morning at 9:30 am to make a reservation for tomorrow. I could not go there tonight while I was near by and make a reservation for tomorrow. I decided it was too much trouble.

The area is great with plenty of all age groups down at the waterfront. Artist sketching people, break-dancers, musicians playing their favorite tunes, it was wonderful.

Tomorrow we will be taking a trolley tour of the city to get the details and will then pick which site we will return to on our own.

Arriving 12/10/06 for 3 nights/2 days - want to see Savannah Christmas. Will be traveling with wheelchair for Mom; suggest best tour. Have been to Riverfront Market but not City Market - must see? Special local eats - not too $$. Best places to park. Thanks!

I think it’s best to stay in one of the downtown inns if you want to get a feel for what the people and atmosphere are like. I can for a long weekend and decided to stay. There are a lot of great things to do and see and not all of them cost alot of money. Nov. ,Dec, Feb and March are great if you like the cooler weather, by cooler I mean if the 60’s and 70’s. I personally like the restuarants not on River Street and there are plenty of them depending on what you have a taste for. River Street is overpriced and frankly the food is not very good.

I’m planning a ladies weekend getaway trip to Savannah, in March 2007. This will be our first time there what is there to do and see around this time of year and how is the weather there. Do they have any great seafood restuarant there and what hotel do you reccommend. We would like to stay close to historic district area so we can walk and sight see and shop near by area shops. When is the best time to eat at Lady and Sons Restuarant and will Paula Dean be there we would love to meet her.
    Thank You
    Carolyn

Bonaventure Cemetary is a must-see. The live oaks and spanish moss are serenely beautiful, and the monuments are unique and impressive works of art.

  18. A Savannah Native Says:

THE JULY 21 COMMENT SEEMS STAGED. Savannah is full of great food and entertainment. It is not all about Paula Dean or her sons. Come to Savannah to see how life is where you know your neighbors, the streets are beautiful, and there are a ton of charming shops and restaurants. Top that off with the great history and natural beauty and you have a wonderful experience ahead of you. Don’t do all of the commercial things. Savannah was beautiful and charming before TV found it, and it will be after they leave.

  19. savannah visitor Says:

Are you tired of the rush rush and just want to calm down, slow down and relax a little. You must visit the Savannah area the little towns that surround it are very cool rincon, guyton, garden city and pooler just to name a couple of them of course no trip to savannah is complete with out visiting the Lady and Sons restuarant in the historic district Paula Dean from food networks restuarant. Be sure to come early to get a seat. And check out all that the town of Savannah has to offer.
