Well trying to be helpful to some of you. I am from Santa Fe and have lived there for more than 20 years so I can say that I do know a little bit about the place. If you are going there and looking for a good restaurant I would recommend if you want Italian food Il Vicino or Pizzeria Espiritu. I prefer Pizzeria Espiritu just one of my favorites. Its a small restaurant that has great food and the atmosphere is awesome if you go at night. They are not overpriced and thats one of my suggestions. Its a locally owned restaurant and well they are great. There is usually plenty of entertainment in Santa Fe but I am not sure whats going down this news years so ask around and get your hands on a PASATIEMPO that will have pretty much the entertainment listing of events and times and everything around the Santa Fe area. Just ask where you can get one and it shouldn’t be difficult. Hope that I was of some help.

My husband and I will be vacationing in Santa Fe during the week of New Years. Infact, we arrive on New Year’s Eve and would like some recommendatinos on a great restaurant and possible entertainment to ring in the new year. Figured that reservations need to be made prior to then…..Thanks for your help.

remember to say Sahn- ta’Fe!
I attended St. Michael’s College [now the College of Santa Fe] in v.early 60’s and the city & its people turned me toward life as a painter. I have visited only a couple of times since, and it hadn’t changed much other than the real people seemed to have been replaced by actors. It is a small state capitol and one can walk around the town in a short time. It is situated in a beautiful landscape, that you will never forget. Albuquerque is more like a big city and has a night life, etc. Santa Fe is more a sleepy, tourist town by comparison. Great weather except spring! wet and muddy. Go in Autumn….warm in town and snow in the mountains

I am thinking about visiting Santa Fe the first week of December. How much snow should I expect? Does it snow every day?

Santa Fe is cool. I used to live there so I am very familiar with all the sites, etc. October is nice because the Aspens are turning. There are no cliff dwellings near Santa Fe but there are some near Los Alamos.
Must See:
Canyon Road - Where the art galleries are. It is near the plaza.
The Plaza - The center of town and some fun stuff to see…like the Indian market…don’t be afraid to purchase there as they pay high fees to sit there. Meet the people who create beautiful jewelry.
Tesuque - pronounced Tesooky - The back way - There is a bronze foundry and gallery there (indoor and outdoor). There is also a museum and a glass shop.
Ten Thousand Waves - One of the best spas I have ever been to. Outdoor hot tubs, a public tub, massages, facials…ahhhhhhhh.
Tomasitas - Restaurant - You may have to wait but you will be glad you did. In the old depot near downtown.
Tia Sofias - off the plaza - More, more, more - Green chile enchiladas. Yummmmmm.
Blue Corn Cafe - Fresh brewed beer, great food, and the cactus tea is to die for.
High Desert Inn - Near the plaza - half the price and a short walk to everything Santa Fe (Plaza, etc.)
La Casa Sena - on the Plaza - a high end restaurant that features great food and entertainment.
If you go to Taos, take the high road…beautiful, breathtaking, magnificent.
Come back on 285 and see Ranchos de Taos and other sites. Don’t forget to stop at some wineries along the way.
In Taos, Eske’s Brew Pub. Damn!
Stay at Sonterra…cheap and close in.
Have coffee at The Bean.
Don’t look for night life in Santa Fe or Taos,…they are daytime places.
In Albuquerque, go to the flea market and eat at the Cooperage and go to Gruet’s Winery…champagne from real french champagne makers.
Lots of night life in Albuquerque. Old Town is cool. Take a cab.
Hope this helps a bit.

i’m looking to visit taos and some other areas (pueblos, cliff dwellings etc) while in santa fe for a few days in early oct. and was wondering if someone can recommend the best way to do so- via bus/tour (any specific company/operator?), train etc? i’ll be starting and ending my trip in albuquerque, so i was also wondering the best way to go to/from (other than renting a car).
