I went last June for the first time and loved it. We stayed at a hotel on 77th st. It slept 6. It wasnt the Hilton but it was someplace to shower and put our heads down to sleep at night. We are going back again this June because 3 days there was not enough. We will be there for 5 days and taking some others with us. We took the subway everywhere. You need to get a metro card at one of the stations for the subway and the city bus as well. It is $2 a trip. Go to Ellis Island and the statue of liberty, ground zero, central park is beautiful. This time we are going to walk on the brooklyn bridge and take the staten island ferry which is free to staten island.
Food in New York is great however I wanted a New York City hotdog real bad and I got one from one of the corner stands and was very disappointed.
Hope you all have fun.

I’ve never been to NYC, and I’m kinda’ scared. I live in a small town(population approx. 25,000 people). I’m supposed to go the 1st wk of July, and am wondering how how it gets around that time. Really, though, I’m terrified. Any suggestions?

What hotels do you recommend staying at? What shows? Never been to New York. Planning a trip. Want to get the best out of it.

Richard… like Cathy, we took the hop-on-hop-off tour bus for 48 hours. It’s the thing to do. You get off at the sites you want, and spend as much time as you want there. You’re not rushed, and you don’t have to get off at all if you don’t want. We spent several hours walking around Chinatown sampling the food and the bargains. It was GREAT. Enjoy…

Thanks, Jacqueline for your comments - I’m planning a trip in December and need some specific recommendations, so your comments fit that bill. Anyone else?

My husband and I take the train to New York a few time a year, just for day trips. We were just there in August, and we are going again in November. We absoutley love the city. There are so many fun things to do. Two of our favorite things to do is take the Staten Island Ferry, it has the most amazing views of the Manhatten skyline and the Statue of Liberty. The best part about the ferry is that it’s free. Our other favorite thing is the pedicab through Central Park. The tour guides are wounderful, they know a lot about what is going on in the park and the surrounding areas. N.Y. also has some of the best resturants. You’ll never go hungry. The subway system is very easy to follow, and as far as I am concerned, the best way to travel through the city. I LOVE NY!

I visited New York on the 13th August 2003 a day before the ‘blackout’. I’m going again in 3 weeks. My first visit was magical and to actually see the buildings you only see on TV is an awesome sight. I was there for two weeks and didn’t see it all. My highlight was looking at the Manhatten skyline from Liberty Island. I too recommend the New York tour bus, it’s a brilliant way of getting round the city. Time Square with the naked cowboy has become my favoritest place in the world!

we were in New York July 12th-16th it was great! This was our first time and my husband was very worried about what to expect such as standing out like a touist and getting mugged. He worried for nothing! We stayed in Manhatten on 7th ave 12 blocks from time square and everyone was a tourist! Be prepared to walk alot, its not hard to get around. Do the big red New Your tour bus, we did the 48 hour tour and it is worth every penny! I could go on forever it waws great! Thanks Cathy
