A great place to snorkel is to take a catamaran to the small isle of Molokini. There you can see all the way to the bottom of the ocean (about 60-70 feet) and swim up close and personal with various tropical fishes. They also will take you just off the coast of Maui afterward to swim in an area inhabited by giant turtles. Just don’t swim too close to them.

Where is the best place to stay that is not too expensive, but that offers amenities?

  6. Al Says:

Haleakala sunrise is like nothing else. Allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours to drive from Lahaina/Kihei. Parking is limited so arrive at least 20 minutes before sunrise. You will be about 2000 feet above the clouds so dress warm. Allow 12 hours after diving to drive up the mountain.

Maui us very informal. Shorts and t-shirts almost everywhere anytime of the year. Buy an Alpha shirt here if you need to go formal.

Summer is in mid to high 80s and winter is low to mid 80s. Feb is the middle of the whale season. From the beach you can see about 10 to 20 whales breaching every minute from Kihei to Lahaina. Best free show on earth.

    Much Aloha

I was looking for what to wear to my first visit to Maui in February. Can anybody help ?

    Thanks.

  9. Byron Says:

If you can handle a rugged hike across treacherous lava fields, you’ll find the best snorkeling on Maui in a small cove called the Fishbowl near La Perouse Bay. It’s a fragile underwater ecosystem so tread softly and leave no trace behind.
