Was a waitress at Crazy Bill’s in the Florida Keys. Won a little money in the Florida lottery. Decided to travel - several cruises, a trip to Hawaii and now Buenos Aires. I’m here with my boyfriend who is probably hanging arroung only because I have a some money now.
Anyway, Buenos Aires is great. It’s the springtime and the weather is great
- not too hot, not too cold. Safety has not been an issue so far. I was little worried after reading what happened to President Bush’s daughters in Buenos Aires. We usually stay in Recoleta because it feels safer. Recoleta is a barrio or neighborhood in Buenos Aires.
Recoleta is very upscale. Probably a reminder of Argentina when it was a wealthy country. Lots and lots of great restaurants and cafes.
I’ll list a few places we would recommend.
California Burrito Co - in Microcentro - near Florida Street which is the main shopping street for tourists. It is only open for lunch. It is a type of fast food place but after being force fed bland Argentinean food - you will appreciate a really great burrito.
Milion - a great place for peace and quiet. Never crowded probably because few people can afford the prices like I can. If the weather is good try the small courtyard. Closes very early - about 1AM probably because everybody has left by then. My favorite place - don’t have to worry about my boyfriend here.
Shoeless Joe’s El Alamo - My boyfriends favorite place. Kitchen and bar open 24 hours every day. Very, very busy with a younger upscale crowd, great prices, girls drink for free, all American sports. Not my favorite place because there are always too many young girls who are always hitting on my boyfriend.
Shamrock - great Irish bar. Usually pretty busy. Open from about 8PM to 4PM. Good prices. There is a small basement where a lot of people like to go. There are several Irish bars in Buenos Aires but this is my favorite.
Buenos Aires was definitely a pleasant surprise for me. I like it so much I am planning on returning again - but without my boyfriend - there are a lot of cute guys here.

I’d like to comment about the farm stay (estancia) - when I went to Buenos Aires on vacation, we stayed a night at an estancia - a working farm - this is the first Website I’ve seen who talked about it. You absolutely must stay at one; it’s such a fun experience - whether just to lounge in the shade of trees and relax or ride horses etc. I went with a big group, so there was a lot going on and plenty of people to hang out with. It helps if someone in your group speaks Spanish.
