I’ve lived here all my life and can tell you one of the best destinations is the Biltmore Estate. They’ve recenlty expanded by renovating an historic barn just down from the winery. You need to check their website for activities there as they change with the seasons. You can do anything there from , of course, seeing the house to a picnic on the exstensive ground down from the house itself. There is as well a pond where ducks reside in warm weather, as do the turtles which live in the pond itself. Too, a trip to Asheville’s downtown shouldnt’ be missed. The shops there are delightful, the restaurants are fabulous and there is as well a museum at the square. We now have trolley tours for Asheville’s historic district which give a great overview of just how much history is here. There is a brand new visitor’s center just off of Exit 4C which plays blue grass music, very appropritate for this area, when you step through the doors. There is rafting that goes right by Biltmore Estate property. Last but not least I’ll mention the WNC Farmer’s Market. There you can find seasonal food and craft items as well as jellies, jams and wood products like rocking chairs. Living here give you the advantage of knowing all of the above is worth seeing so make your trip to the mountains for as long as you can stay. It’s worth the drive!
